BodyMind BreakDowns:

The Many Effects of Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve TENSION
On Posture, Pain & Dysfunction,
and Psycho-Emotional Stress

AGING . . . Just Don’t DO It!

So What’s The Problem We’re Talking About Here?
Well, Premature “Aging,” for One Thing . . .

In the BodyMind BreakDowns Seminar or e-Book, you will find out how Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension — or C.E.M.&.N.T. — combined with metabolic toxicity and inadequate nutrition & detoxification, are THE leading causes of what we often call Aging. They — in varying degrees and combinations — are intimately involved with most Chronic Conditions or Degenerative Illnesses such as:

  • Poor Posture — (It’s NOT about so-called *weak* muscles)
  • Aches & Pains — (usually, where you think it is, it ain’t)
  • Arthritis/Bursitis  (looking in all the wrong places, again)
  • Scoliosis — (usually MUCH easier to straighten than recognized)
  • Disc Degeneration — (much of this is from chronically over-shortened muscles)
  • So-called “Slipped Discs” — (there’s those short muscles again)
  • Tendinitis  (a VERY misnamed affliction, according to surgeons)
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) — (stop using your body and you’ll be OKAY! … RIGHT!)
  • Restricted Movement — (it’s usually NOT the joint)
  • Sciatic or Pseudo Sciatica — (the nerve root is usually not the root of the problem)
  • “Torn” Rotator Cuff — (occasionally, yes, usually, NO)
  • Feeling Old — (can you Mature without Aging?)
  • Excess Lordosis — (one of the Great Illusions in physical medicine)
  • Kyphosis (Dowagers Hump) — (Often alleged to be caused by osteoporosis)
  • Depression — (when you can’t move, it gets depressing)
  • Many Other Physical Dysfunctions

The NEW Missing Diagnosis: C.E.M.&.N.T.

This Seminar will give you and your group valuable information on the Missed Diagnosis of Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension.

Over the decades, Too Many People Have SUFFERED, and WE, as a Society, HAVE WASTED far too much . . .

  • Time
  • Intelligence
  • Energy
  • Well-Being
  • Good Will
  • Sanity
  • Money
  • and Other Resources

. . . trying to track down the causes of a wide range of chronic and acute syndromes and symptoms that are caused — directly and/or indirectly — by nothing more than Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension.

No Big Deal, It’s “Just a tight muscle.”

Many highly trained, licensed physicians will often tell a complaining patient that a particular thing happening in their body is No Big Deal, it’s “Just a tight muscle.”

Of course, this is a Pretty Big Nothing if you have bad one, so I use the term “just” somewhat in jest. … But it’s anything but funny to patients who’ve heard their doctor or therapist make light of something as potentially and profoundly impactful as C.E.M.&.N.T. can be. … And trust me, that happens A LOT.

When a doctor or practitioner of any kind tells you “it’s just a tight muscle,” you can bet they, like most physicians, have NO idea let alone training in the facts and implications of Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension. Most physicians — medical, chiropractic, osteopathic (and most physical therapists, too) — appear to not appreciate the wide and deep implications C.E.M.&.N.T. can have on all of our lives. (D.C.s, D.O.s and Naprapaths [I bet you never heard of THEM!] — especially the Old School D.O.s, which has nearly died out — have a bit more knowledge about it, but tend to downplay it, sometimes dramatically. And I have worked with a bunch of them, so I offer first hand, and first body, experience of this reality.)

Is Muscle Tension THE Magic Bullet?
NO … BUT … It’s A BIG Bullet … In An Almost Magic Gun!

Now in case you are wondering, NO, I do not think muscle tension is THE problem above ALL others ALL the time. There are many causes of various illness and disease, from bad nutrition to lack of exercise to taking on a virus or toxic chemical. But if what you have is caused by C.E.M.&.N.T., there is little you can do for the long term, and sometimes the short term, unless you address it directly, on its own terms. That’s why it’s critical that more doctors be trained in the FULL RANGE of health care modalities, not just the narrow band of drugs, surgery and radiation … with occasional bed rest.

And My 30 plus years of Experience says the best ways to handle moderate to extreme cases of C.E.M.&.N.T. is through some kind of yoga-type stretching (preferably the more gentle, non-forceful kind) and hands-on, manual therapy (massage or bodywork type stuff).

Yet C.E.M.&.N.T. is such a very common and significant reality receiving so very little direct and in-depth attention. It is truly close to being The NEW Missing Diagnosis of greatest proportion. There are COUNTLESS stories of people who have not been helped, or have been harmed, by lack of attention to their C.E.M.&.N.T. … Because doctors are so little trained in the well-established, scientifically proven realities of muscles, they are paying no attention to this critical aspect of their patient’s health care needs.

Just for One Example: some people who have been subjected to extensive hospital examinations, including administration of very toxic drugs and highly invasive diagnostic procedures, for an alleged heart condition that turned out to be a “just” a pulled muscle in the wall of the chest!

For Another Example, a large portion of people, as they experience what we usually call “aging,” find themselves losing height, having more difficulty standing or sitting straight, losing their balance and coordination, getting increasingly bent over, less able to move freely and easily, and doing so with more and more effort, even aches and pains. This progression is often, if not usually, interpreted as developing “muscle weakness” or a breakdown of their nerves … or Just Getting “Old.”

Yet even at the extremes, severe, debilitating pain and apparent paralysis can be the result of Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension. … Yes, ALL of this can be as simple as the increasing accumulations of muscular tension, which is, of course, caused by increased nerve tension (output from the central nervous system and brain).

Tension Is Not A THING . . . It’s An ACTION You’re DOING . . .

And, most importantly, human beings need to discover how C.E.M.&.N.T. is NOT some THING stuck in their body, but tension is an ACTION they are DOING, even if totally unconsciously and unintentionally. …

To solve their problems, they must learn how to STOP DOING the ACT of Tension, of holding one or more muscles in a chronically contracted state.

By-the-way, you can have PERFECT nutrition, but if your tension levels are too high, your bodymind can STILL break down. It will probably break down slower than someone who has lousy nutrition, but too much tension even affects how your nutrients are transported and assimilated in the tissues your body.

The BIG Paradox:
Why Muscle Tension Is So Often Ignored

Because varying degrees of muscle/nerve tension are required for Human Beings to function on a day-to-day and moment-to-moment basis, the line between optimal and excess tension varies greatly. There is a very wide grey area that fluctuates dramatically from moment-to-moment depending on what you are DOING, or NOT doing, at that moment.

Yet when chronic tension gets to certain levels — different for everyone at different times in different circumstances — the range of problems it can cause is immensely wide and deep. This is one reason it is easy to ignore muscle and nerve tension: because at its base, it is part of who we are and how we function in the NORMAL bodymind. Paradoxically, since it is EVERYWHERE, and vitally important to every day function, it’s somewhat invisible, and easy to miss it altogether.

Yet the SOLUTIONS for C.E.M.&.N.T. are relatively simple, especially if a preventative program is implemented early in life, before such tensions accumulate. If you and your friends, students, Clients, patients — anyone, actually — are interested in such ideas and issues, topics to be discussed in this Seminar or e-Book are:

  • What Is Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension?
  • How Do We Get It?
  • Why Won’t It Go Away?
  • What Problems Does It Cause? (There are MANY!)
  • Why Is It Not More Recognized?
  • What Are the Principles of Reversing Muscle Tension?
  • Why Is Muscle “Weakness” SELDOM the REAL Problem?
  • What is the New Model of Effortless Great Posture?
  • Where does Fluid Movement & Stability come from?
  • What Are the Principles of Reversing C.E.M.&.N.T.?
  • Does It Take A Long Time To Fix?
  • How Come (Almost) No One Knows This Stuff?

We will in this website and in various publications available here, discuss how things like Physical/Mental Yoga, Massage, Hands-On Bodywork, Tai Chi/Chi Kung, Movement Therapy, even Meditation, and other relatively gentle processes can intervene in tension problems, and the Scientific Model — most of it well-established by modern medical research — behind that capacity of the human bodymind to heal itself and maintain good health.

Which Comes First . . . Mind, Body or Emotion?

Also addressed will be the Issues of the Brain, the Mind, and the Emotions, and the part they play in the whole process. They totally affect the body processes, and the opposite is true, too. Too many people want to believe that the Mind or Brain control everything. Well, there is a certain truth to that. Yet it is also true that what happens in the muscles and surface of the body have a great deal of influence on what happens deeper in the nervous system and brain, too.

It is a two-way feed. And must be treated that way.

The Seminar or Talk can be from 2 to 3 hours in duration, depending on the interest levels of your group, and gives the participants a very complete overview of important issues as to why, in many cases, there is the ONE central problem that many others emerge from. And in those cases, if you can reverse the ONE central problem, all the others will very often tend toward taking care of themselves, if not completely resolve. And that central problem in many cases is Chronic, Excess Muscle & Nerve Tension.

After the presentation, I will be available for Questions & Answers.

The e-Book on Bodymind Breakdowns & C.E.M.&.N.T. will soon be available, too.
